Thierry Henry born on August 17, 1977 in Les Ulis, Essonne (France) is a very famous professional football player who currently plays for the New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer.
Henry joined AS Monaco’s youth team in 1992 and had an instant impact due to his skills in front of goal that predicted he would become a great striker. In 1994 the French player made his professional debut for Monaco where he played until 1998, a period during which he helped the team win the Ligue 1 title in 1996–97, the French Super Cup in 1997 and led Monaco to the UEFA Champions League semi-final in the 1997–98 season. In January 1999 he moved to Juventus, but after some dissaponting appearances he left the club and joined Arsenal, reuniting with his former manager Arsene Wenger. It was here that the French striker made his name as a world-class player. During his eight years in England, Henry scored 174 goals in 254 matches, winning the Premier League in 2001–02 and 2003–04, the FA Cup three times (2002, 2003, 2005), the FA Community Shield two times (2002, 2004) and becoming a legend of Arsenal.
But surprisenly, in 2007 Henry signed a 4-year deal with Barcelona, although he only remained in Spain for three seasons, enough time to win the most important competition his outstanding trophy-room lacked, the UEFA Champions League in 2008–09. With Barcelona he also won two La Liga titles (2008–09, 2009–10) and one national cup (2008–09). On an individual level, Henry was given the European Footballer of the Year award in 2003 and 2006. In July 2010 Henry signed a multi-year contract with Major League Soccer club New York Red Bulls.
Henry has also had a successful career with the France national team: he won the FIFA World Cup in 1998 and the UEFA European Football Championship two years later. At the end of the 2010 World Cup he announced his retirement from international football, after scoring 51 goals in 123 appearances for ‘Les Bleus’.
