Shaquille O’Neal’s professional career began back in 1992, when he was selected by the Orlando Magic and in his first year O’Neal averaged 23.4 points on 56.2% shooting, 13.9 rebounds, and 3.5 blocks per game for the season, being named the 1993 NBA Rookie of the Year. In 1996 he joined Los Angeles Lakers, where alongside Kobe Bryant formed a formidable duo that led the team to three NBA Championships, in 2000, 2001 and 2002. However, it was the later rivalry with Kobe Bryant that led to his departure from Los Angeles Lakers in 2004, when he signed for Miami Heat. Although he had to cope with a deep thigh bruise injury, O’Neal led his team to the Eastern Conference Finals and a to a decisive seventh match against the defending champions Detroit Pistons, Miami Heat eventually losing by a narrow margin in the final game. In 2008 he moved to Phoenix Suns, where he only remained for one season, with poor results. After another seasons at Cleveland Cavaliers (the Cavaliers were eliminated from the playoffs, losing to the Boston Celtics 4–2), Shaquille O’Neal joined Boston Celtics in 2010, where he has been playing up to date.

On a personal level, Shaquille O’Neal won the NBA title four times (2000, 2001, 2002 and 2006), was named NBA Finals MVP on three occasions (2000–2002), received the National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player award in 2000 and was the NBA scoring champion two times (1995 and 2000). Despite this, he also holds a negative record for missing all 11 free throws in a singe game against the Seattle SuperSonics in December 2000.

O’Neal established himself as a formidable low post presence, his imposing physical and technique abilities often causing damage and changes in the opposing team’s tactics. At the age of 38 he remains one of the most important players in the National Basketball Association.

Patrick Ewing, born on August 5, 1962, in Kingston, Jamaica, is a retired Jamaican-American professional basketball player and who currently is part of the National Basketball Association’s Orlando Magic coaching staff.

During his college career he played for Georgetown University, with which he won the 1982 National Collegiate Athletic Association final against the University of North Carolina. At the 1985 NBA Draft he was selected by the New York Knicks, marking the beginning of an outstanding career which made him a representative player for the professional basketball team based in New York City. He was named NBA Rookie of the Year, averaging 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks per match, despite being forced to miss several games due to injuries. Ewing was unstoppable during an amazing victory over NBA Champion Chicago Bulls, led by the legend Michael Jordan in the 1992 Eastern Conference semifinals. The following season, the Knicks again faced Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls and failed to qualify for the NBA Finals after a dramatic defeat in the last game. Although Knicks always managed to reach the conference finals, they never succeeded in going all the way to win the championship. After 1039 games for the New York Knicks Patrick Ewing finished his career by playing one season for the Seattle SuperSonics (2000–2001) and a final one for Orlando Magic (2001–2002).

He received numerous career highlights and awards: 11 appearances in the NBA All-Star team (1986, 1988–1997), was named six times in the All-NBA Second Team (1988–1989, 1991–1993, 1997), was named the Most Outstanding Player for his performance during the NCAA men’s Division I basketball championships and won the Adolph Rupp Trophy in 1985.

An outstanding center (also known as the pivot) on the court, Patrick Ewing was one of the best players of his generation, with a great deal of strength, athleticism and skill, making him an unparalleled asset, especially for the New York Knicks.

Michael Jordan, born in Brooklyn (New York), is a retired American professional basketball player, generally considered to be the best player in the history of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Jordan’s professional career took place between 1984 and 2003, with two short breaks (1993-1995 and 1998-2001) as he tried a new experience in the minor league baseball, signing a contract with the Chicago White Sox. He also featured for the Scottsdale Scorpions in the 1994 Major League Baseball which operates during the fall in Arizona. But he remains known for his numerous awards and many records set during his career on the basketball court. His name will always be associated with the Chicago Bulls team, for which he played during 1984–1993 and 1995–1998, winning six NBA titles (1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998). During this time Jordan was named NBA Most Valuable Player five times (1988, 1991–1992, 1996, 1998).

Michael Jordan has also set the record for the NBA highest career regular campaign scoring average (30.12 points per match) and highest career playoff scoring average (33.45 points per match). During his prolific career he was named NBA All-Star Game MVP three times (1988, 1996, 1998) and won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest two times (1987–1988). His final years in professional basketball were spent at Washington Wizards (2001–2003), where he initially became part owner and President of Basketball Operations. In 2003 Jordan was the first 40-year-old player to manage 43 points in an NBA game and as a result of his major contribution to the game Jordan was included in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in September 2009.

With a controversial career in and off the court, Michael Jordan has promoted the image of the National Basketball Association around the world during two decades and remains the symbol of Bulls, being one of the most famous athletes of his generation.
